Lord Thompson Manor Wedding - 48

The classic, ideal Western wedding is sort of a palindrome: you start the day slowly building to the heights of finery, hoping to look better than you ever have in your life, culminating in the stunning formality of a wedding ceremony … and then you let it all go in wild revelry, a mash of joy and sweat and hairpins. It’s how we squeeze every last bit of happiness and camaraderie out of a single day, and Jackie and Corey’s wedding was an incredible expression of the form. Beauty? Well, you have a couple whose ecstasy (and every other emotion) radiates through their whole body, classic style,beautiful, well-thought-out details and all set in the stunning Lord Thompson Manor.

This wedding at Lord Thompson Manor was just unreal. It’s really hard to describe this day… Amazing fall weather combined with gorgeous Bride and Groom, the setting at Lord Thompson Manor and the energy of the guests made it just perfect. We started with bride and groom prep, first look, some wedding pictures here and there, wonderful outdoor wedding ceremony, awesome speeches, and the day ended with everyone rocking out to Wilson Stevens Band. Loved everything about this day and we couldn’t be happier for Sunny and Michael. Cheers to the Newlyweds!

We are absolutely in love with Carissa and Ryan’s Lord Thompson Manor wedding. Nestled in the sleepy northeast corner of Connecticut, the historical Lord Thompson Manor was the ideal backdrop to Carissa and Ryan’s wedding day, and the perfect match to their classically elegant eye for fashion. From the light and airy cottage house, to the dark woods of the manor’s billiards room – it seamlessly complimented Carissa’s delicate grace and Ryan’s dapper charm. Every detail of this wedding was flawless, from Carissa’s gown to the napkin rings, the day was truly a dream.

The Coordinated Bride Carissa shares all the details!

Our Love Story

(Ryan and I) met through mutual friends in 2011, who set us up to go on a group dinner with them. We dated for 3 years before we got engaged.  Ryan proposed to me while we were on vacation in Yellowstone National Park, at the summit of Mount Washburn. He carried the ring around with him the entire trip until he found the right opportunity. We were with some friends, and when he took me over to the spot where he proposed, our friends trailed behind to take a video of us. They had glasses and champagne in their backpack so we wasted no time celebrating! It’s really cool that we have the proposal to look back on and watch.

The Wedding Planning

I knew immediately that I wanted to have a romantic/glamorous theme for our wedding. It really fits my style and vision; therefore, I went with the color palette of blush, gold, rose gold and light taupe.  We also were set on finding a venue where we could have a ‘wedding weekend’, since Ryan has a lot of family that live in the south that were going to be travelling up for the wedding.  We wanted to be able to spend time visiting with our family and friends, rather than trying to fit it all into a 6 hour ceremony and reception.

I showed our wedding coordinator at the venue photos from my Pinterest board to help give them an idea of what look we wanted.  The Manor actually did all of the decorating for us, and even used props that they had on site such as picture frames, throw pillows, and lots of candles to bring our vision to life. They decorated the arbor we got married in front of with beautiful flowers and flowy fabric.  We incorporated hints of shimmer and sparkle with the decor, and it came out exactly as I had hoped it would.  Seeing my vision all come together was a pretty cool experience!

Jackie who works at the Manor did all of our flower arrangement for us.  She used different flowers that were in season, and went with the color scheme to create these gorgeous bouquets and centerpieces. While we kept our flower budget on the lower end, they still came out more beautiful than I could’ve imagined.

The Wedding Attire

Once again, wanting to stick with the theme of being romantic and glamorous I choose a dress that had a hint of blush to make it a bit more unique.  I originally wanted to have my hair down; but, with the humidity of July I opted for a last minute change and put it all up, which I am actually glad that I did. The guys all wore matching wore suits that were French blue, with light brown shoes and fun patterned socks.  I feel that created a more relaxed, not quite as formal look to our wedding.

The Wedding Day

I think the most anticipated moment of our special day was when we did our first look.  Our family and bridal party stood up on the balcony overlooking the ceremony spot, while I walked out to Ryan.  Seeing his face as he turned around was such a memorable moment, and having our family and close friends witness that made it even better.  Overall we were really looking forward to just celebrating with everyone and enjoying the day to its fullest.

One of our favorite parts of the wedding for us was the after party!  We had late night snacks that consisted of a hot dog stand, pretzels, homemade cookies and s’mores around the fire pits. Another highlight was the band… they were absolutely incredible!  They had everyone out on the dance floor.  The energy of live music at a wedding is just so magnetic.

Advice for future Coordinated Brides

As with any big event, planning is essential. Prior to the planning, however, it comes down to thinking about and identifying the most important aspects for you both, so that you can know where to dedicate the most resources to make your day what you want it to be.  Find the right people to help you organize and coordinate the wedding on the day of, so that you don’t have to worry and can fully enjoy the precious time of your special day.

Gorgeous shoes and Chanel!  You can’t go wrong!
Love the subtle shades of blue and pink on these bridesmaid robes.  We’ve never seen the robes in these colors.
The champagne and blush dresses coordinate so beautifully!
The setup of the ceremony is ideal!  The brushes of low trees that separate the guests from the aisle.
The lounge decor must coordinated with the colors of the wedding!  Swoon!

James & Julie’s Lord Thompson Manor wedding was a beautiful day that was a bit different than most weddings we shoot. It was unique because while the couple is high school sweethearts and are HEAD OVER HEALS in love with each other, they both wanted their day to be less about them and more about their friends and family. This made the entire day, and celebration, certainly one to remember! Sometimes we find that couples want the day to be focused mainly on them and what’s surrounding them. James and Julie really wanted us to capture the happiness and candid moments of their day.

Special shout out to all the awesome vendors who made this day perfect (full list of vendors below!) but especially Lord Thompson Manor, their team, and Jackie & Andrew for successfully executing yet another perfect wedding. They always put their own creative touch on everything from the decor to the cooking- which makes our job as the photographer much easier!

Emily & Steve’s Elegant Lord Thompson Manor Wedding

Emily and Steve got married on a manic (albeit gorgeous) weather day in October at the Lord Thompson Manor in Thompson Connecticut. There were storms scattered all around the area that day, and there were even brief moments of sunshine while the two said their “I do’s.” Emily was absolutely stunning in a simple dress, and Steve was totally at ease, it was like he’d been waiting all his life to marry Emily. They chose incredibly adorable details that went perfectly with the style of the manor, and hundreds of candles made for a gorgeous intimate feel. We had a fantastic time, and loved getting to work with some new faces as well as some old ones (whom we enjoy immensely.) Enjoy Emily and Steve’s incredible Lord Thompson Manor wedding!

Venue: Lord Thompson Manor

This wedding is definitely proof that when you pick a spectacular venue like the Lord Thompson Manor, the hard work is just about done for you. Isn’t this place incredible? This was a traditional, romantic celebration that was a perfect fit for the Manor itself – just like the bride’s cathedral length veil and tiara!  The only extra decorations required?  Florals in a pretty, fresh palette of white and peach.  See more below!

Tell us about your beautiful venue. Our reception was at the Lord Thompson Manor in Thompson, Connecticut, a beautiful country estate. This venue is unique because you stay there for the whole weekend, Friday-Sunday. It’s amazing – you spend time with family and friends (bridal party) on Friday, and we had our rehearsal dinner there too. The Manor set up one long table for over 40 people – it was insane! There are rooms at the Manor for the bridal party and family to stay in. Then you wake up Saturday to get ready for the wedding (in the venue’s spa for the girls, in the rooms at the Manor for the guys, and then Sunday morning we had a big send-off brunch with everyone. It was the best weekend of our lives spent with all of our favorite people at a truly magical place.

badgley-mischka-dorsay

What was the best advice you received as a bride? To take it all in as much as possible on the day because it goes by so fast. I remember waking up and reading a card from Zach around 7am and already crying (our Maid of Honor and Best Man delivered cards and gifts we got each other that morning.) I was so excited and nervous – I knew I had to just breathe and cherish every minute. It was really amazing to be surrounded by our favorite people. Everyone was so excited!

Did you include any traditions in your wedding? Yes, we tried to keep the wedding as traditional as possible. Jacky did follow the bride’s tradition of having something old, new borrowed and blue. We slept apart the night before and spent some quality time with our groomsmen and bridesmaids. It was difficult being apart! We were both so excited and just wanted to see each other.

The Ceremony

Why did you choose this location for your ceremony? Christ Church in Pomfret, Connecticut is the church that Jacky grew up attending with her family. It is a beautiful and intimate setting – the chapel is filled with stained glass windows and offers a unique and romantic setting.

Who officiated your ceremony? How did you choose him/her? The Rector of Christ Church, Reverend David M. Carter, officiated our ceremony. He has been at Christ Church since 1996, and it was important to Jacky to get married in the church she grew up attending. Thankfully Zach was very supportive, even though it was not the church he grew up going to.

How did you go about planning your ceremony?  We planned our ceremony ourselves and modeled it to be fairly traditional in regards to the music and the service itself. It was important to us to have family members involved with it, so we each had a member of our family do a reading. Jacky’s friend and former dance team coach from UConn, Sarah Harrington, offered advice and a beautiful template for the layout of the ceremony, including music and text that we fell in love with.

ashley largesse; lord thompson manor; connecticut wedding; ceremony in cathedral;

What were your ceremony readings? Jacky’s cousin Ryan Augustus read the poem I Carry Your Heart With Me by e e cummings, and Zach’s Godfather read I Corinthians 13.

Did you include any traditions in your ceremony? We recited traditional vows instead of writing our own. We were both a bit nervous that we’d be too emotional to get through saying our own –and there’s something really romantic about reciting vows that have married people for years and years.

What were your vows like? We chose traditional Episcopal vows from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer.

ashley largesse; lord thompson manor; connecticut wedding; first kiss in cathedral;

What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony? Zach: “When we were announced as Mr. and Mrs. Zachary Putnam and then turned to walk down the aisle – seeing the looks of love and happiness on all of our friends and family’s faces.”

What was your ceremony music? Processional – Canon in D by Pachabel / Procession of the Bride – Bridal Chorus by Wagner / Recessional – Wedding March by Mendelssohn.

What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding? Be kind to yourselves and know that this is your one day to do what you want; try not to stress about things that other people might have an opinion about and just do what makes you happy! It will be the best day of your life.

Do you have any budget tips for other brides? Spend money on things that are important to you like having amazing pictures or great music. We had the most amazing photographer, Ashley Largesse, who made our day even more fun and amazing. Weddings are expensive and the costs of things add up quickly and can be overwhelming—we knew what our big ticket items were and came to terms with that fairly quickly. We also kept a fairly detailed spreadsheet of all of the wedding expenses so that we could see how much we were spending from beginning to end.

The Reception

What was your favorite moment or part of the reception? Our favorite part of the reception was during the Best Man and Maid of Honor speeches. The staff at the Manor gathers everyone to the side garden, where the Best Man and Maid of Honor stand on a balcony above everyone and give their toasts, which serves as the kick-off to the evening. It was magical and both of our best friends gave incredible and touching speeches. Then our photographer Ashley Largesse magically appeared on the roof of the Manor (she literally climbed out a window) and took an aerial shot of everyone toasting us in the side garden.

Why did you choose this location for your reception? The Manor is so incredible, and the team there and the owners pay attention to the smallest details. When you walk in it literally takes your breath away – the level of attention and care that they put into every last detail from the food presentation, to the décor in each room, the timeline… everything! They run a tight ship there, and since we’re both Type A that was great for us.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? We wanted it to be traditional, romantic and fun. Both of our parents have been married for many years (Zach’s parents for 45 years, and Jacky’s parents for 28) so they were a huge inspiration for us, and we wanted to pay homage to that and have a wedding that reflected love and family. We loved the heirloom touches in the overall design and feel of each room within the Manor…it was very elegant. It felt like a dream!

Are there any DIY details you’d like to tell us about? Both of us combined are the worst DIY-ers ever, so basically nothing was DIY. With a venue like the Manor, you really don’t need to do any DIY special details because the venue is spectacular and each room has a beautiful design and decorations. They have an incredible inventory and can tailor it to each couple, down to the type of cutlery, candelabras, table cloths, the list goes on!

What type of cake or dessert did you serve? We had a three-tiered cake that was half chocolate, half vanilla (we couldn’t decide!) with buttercream frosting.

ashley largesse; lord thompson manor; connecticut wedding; classic white tiered wedding cake; monogrammed wedding cake; white wedding cake on antique silver stand; white and peac h flowers on wedding cake;

What was your first dance song? Our first dance song was Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, but we danced to a slower, more acoustic version.

If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently? Nothing! We joke that we should fake split up so we can get married at the Manor all over again!
